An Executive MBA (EMBA) is a big investment of both time and money. Therefore, it is essential to choose the programme that best fits your needs.
Below are four tips on how to decide whether a programme is suitable for you:
Faculty: From whom do you want to learn?
The faculty teaching the EMBA programme has a major impact on the programme content and delivery. From whom do you want to learn? Do you prefer local professors with a deep knowledge of the Finnish business environment? Or do you prefer international professors who bring outside experiences and perspectives to the programme?
Henley has a strong international focus – and this is also reflected in the faculty teaching on our EMBA programme. We offer our programme members a diverse, world-class faculty. Many of the professors are from the UK, but the others come from all over the world. Henley’s academics are internationally renowned and widely published experts in their fields, with plenty of practical work experience.
Network: With whom do you want to study?
Building a professional network is an integral part of studying an EMBA. You have a great opportunity to connect with people from different backgrounds, industries and countries – and to build a very diverse network.
An EMBA is an intense experience. During the programme, you will study in small groups and work closely with other students. This creates strong bonds and relationships that often last for a lifetime. Therefore, it is essential to look at the participant profiles of the different programmes. This will help you discover a suitable peer group who can support you in your personal and professional development.
Henley EMBA participants are typically experienced senior business professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds and industries – and of different nationalities.
You will become a Henley alumnus from day one of your studies and join a global alumni network of more than 80,000 people in over 180 countries.
Accreditations and rankings: Look for high quality and standards of education
You want your degree to come from an accredited, high-ranking university. Accreditations and high rankings guarantee high quality and standards of education.
Select a school with accreditations from the most sought-after international organisations: AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS. To date, there are only 108 business schools in the world that hold all three accreditations – and Henley is one of them. Actually, Henley was the first business school based in Finland to receive the coveted “triple crown”.
In addition to accreditations, look at school rankings. Some of the world’s most prestigious ranking lists for an EMBA are the Financial Times and the Economist.
Henley’s EMBA currently ranks the highest of all schools in Finland. It has been ranked number 61 in the world by the Financial Times in 2021 and number 21 in the world by the Economist in 2020.
Being triple accredited makes Henley one of the top business schools in the world. And the Financial Times and the Economist rankings position the Henley EMBA as the premier EMBA programme in Finland.
Time management: How to fit your studies in?
EMBA studies are a time-consuming effort. In addition to classroom hours, students usually spend an average of 14–20 hours per week studying. Studies are part-time, allowing you to continue working full time while completing your EMBA.
Each EMBA programme is structured differently and requires a different amount of study time per week. Considering in advance how much time you can set aside for your studies per week will help you decide which programme is suitable for you and your schedule.
With a required study time of 10–16 hours per week, the Henley EMBA is ideal for people who are unable to take significant time out of the workplace to study. The programme has a modular structure and follows a six-week learning cycle with 3- to 4-day workshops typically once a month.
If other commitments in life change, the Henley EMBA also allows you to take study breaks.
